D2 Playoffs: CalU and Walt Harris Lose In First Round

November 22, 2010

For those of you who didn’t know, former Pitt coach Walt Harris had found himself a job just 35 miles from campus this past year…as the Offensive Coordinator of D2 school California University of Pennsylvania.  In his first season as OC, the Vulcans went 10-1 and had the 26th ranked scoring offense in D2 (of 151 schools).  Harris, always known for developing quarterbacks during his years at Pitt, has been working CalU QB Josh Portis (cousin of Clinton Portis), who threw for 2,351 yards and 30 touchdowns with just seven interceptions during the regular season.  However, the Vulcans season ended this past Saturday in the first round of the D2 playoffs to Bloomsburg 28-26.  No word if this 2pt loss was due to a “swinging gate” extra point gone awry followed by a failed 2pt conversion on the next touchdown.
