Gameweek New Hampshire: The More You Know

September 8, 2010

Opponent: #5(FCS) The New Hampshire Wildcats (1-0)

Kickoff: Saturday, September 11th, 1pm

Mascot: Gnarlz and Wild E. Cat, the wildcats

Conference: Colonial Athletic Association.  This is also the current football conference of defending FCS National Champion and Big East member Villanova.

Series: This will be the first meeting between the two schools.  After looking at the 2011-2015 future schedules, it looks like it will be the only meeting between the schools in the near future as well.

TV/Radio: ESPN3.com, if your cable company/internet provider paid ESPN a lot of money to allow you to do this.  Otherwise you’ll need to tune into 93.7FM in Pittsburgh or 937thefan.com.

Bloggers: Found one, but the URL doesn’t appear to work anymore.  Best we could do here is the UNH Football message boards. http://unhwildcats.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=unhanda10football

Fun Facts: New Hampshire has an active winning streak of five games against FBS opponents (Rutgers ’04, Northwestern ’06, Marshall ’07, Army ’08, Ball State ’09), something no other FCS team has done, and they’ve managed to do so all on the road.

The Wildcats have also won their last five games against current Big East teams, Rutgers in ’04, and four straight wins against UConn then the two schools were rivals in the Yankee/Atlantic-10 conference from ’96-’99.

New Hampshire has turned out more than a handful of NFL players over the years.  The most recognizable name in the Pittsburgh area is Dan Kreider, playing FB for the Steelers from 2000-2007.
